Lenith Atienza- Emotional and Behavioral Disorders

Due to the increasing number of students with emotional and behavioral disorders, I think that parents and educators should work hand and hand to ensure that the students are provided with the needed support.

What do you think we can do to establish a strong partnership between parents and educators?

I think its important to establish the parent/teacher relationship as early as possible. Teachers need to take the initiative and find out WHO there students are before the start of school if possible, and make the initial contact. The first encounter between parents and teachers should not be when problems arise, it should be at the start of the year.

Too often, Teachers/Administration and the like wait until a child fails or gets into trouble before that contact is made.

I think this is just ONE way the teacher/parent relationship can be cultivated and improved.

Dealing with students with emotional and behavioral disorders is very challenging. It is important for the teachers and parents to have a good rapport with each other. There should have an open communication so that each party is aware of the student's progress. Phone calls, notes, or after school conferences are ways to establish relationship between parents and teachers, to help the students achieve the skills they need to learn.

To establish a good parent-teacher relationship I think that teachers should let the parents know that he or she will be there for them and their child. The school could also start a little support group for students with disabilties and their parents so that they all can get to know each other better.

Collaboration must be established between school and home. The team members must work together in establishing a professional and positive communication with parents. This rapport must be initiated before the start of school. I believe that the administration should implement close interaction with the parents, teachers and other involved entities to ensure positive learning experiences and success for the student with ED.
Good Job!
